Torrens

Luke and I went for a walk along the Torrens near our place, it was such a gorgeous winter afternoon. The main reason I love to go down there on a weekend afternoon is all the cute dogs!! Spotted these two cuties after their owner was trying to get the cheeky one out of the bushes. 'They're gorgeous' I commented to the lady, 'Did you hear that boys?!' she remarked at the dogs. So funny!

Starting from the end

What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from. -- TS Eliot

I think it's the end for me...the end of big 8 or so months. Many of my friends and family don't know this, but I have been too many dark places, and only began to see the light recently. For those who have supported, listened and gave advice, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for you are the only people who have seen firsthand what I have been through and how far I have come. For those who were unaware, I also thank you, for you simply being there by my side day in and day out.

Now it is the beginning...the 'old' Megan is back and embarking on a new journey and seeing things simply and differently than before. Photography has really helped me to rediscover, refocus, find meaning and see a clearer future. Not necessarily having anything to do with photography but when I’m behind the lens it’s as if I can really think. Think about everything and also think about nothing at all.

So here I am, starting from the end.

Frankie // Sneak Peek

The door opened and the baby started crying...'uh oh' I was thinking, Frankie doesn't like me! But after an inital bout of tears and a few little messes down his tiny sized T-shirt my session with baby Frankie was underway.

Dressed in oh-so-cute stripes and with gorgeous blue eyes he was irresistable! What a handsome little cutie he is! His gorgeous Mummy and I played with him and his favourite toys until he started to tucker out and nap time was on the cards. A big thank you to Frankie and his Mum Jenny for letting me capture some snapshots - I had so much fun playing and catching up.

Here is a sneak peak...

Carrick Hill

Was very excited to go out photographing on Saturday as this was my first time out with the D90 and Im loving it already. It was hard to part with my D3100 as it was my first ever camera, the one I got to cut my photography teeth on, and I feel bad upgrading already (I know I shouldn't feel bad but I get attached to things wayyyy to easily! I was the kid who cried when I was forced to through old clothes away...)

BUT the one thing I am loving about the D90 is I can auto-focus my macro lens - and ohhhhh this is a luxury I love!! Now I will be able to use it for portraits. The bokeh it has is beautiful :)

Here are some pictures of the beautiful Carrick Hill Estate, popular for weddings in our area and has a stunning garden, although lacking beautiful blooms atm because of winter...

Sebastian // Adelaide Portrait Photographer

He greeted me with a look of uncertainty, who is this stranger in my house? Soon after he was sharing his toys and showing me his cheeky smile. A natural cutie, of course the camera loved him!

A big thank you goes to his lovely parents, Andy and Sarah, who invited me into their house to capture some photos of their gorgeous 12 month old I got some absolutely gorgeous photos of him and was such a dream to photograph, with little dimples and giggling at everything. He found a new friend in Luke, and I'm not sure which one had more fun!

Here is a sneak peak at the session - such a cutie!

The Golden Cage

After reading a blog post from Jasmine Star I realised that she has hit the nail on the head. She writes about reading ‘The Golden Cage’ by Gordon MacDonald, in which he writes how driven people are prone to being trapped in a golden cage. He described driven people and listed a few of their faults. I squirmed in my chair as I continued reading. I squirm when I’m uncomfortable. My eyes were glued to the screen as I read more.

MacDonald writes:
“Why is it that for so many the answer to personal tension and pressure lies not in going to the bridge of life but rather in attempting to run faster, protest more vigorously, accumulate more, collect more data, and gain more expertise? We give attention to every cubic inch of life than our inner worlds—the only place we can gain the strength to brave any outer turbulence.”

I squirmed. I’m a driven person, so reading an analysis pertaining to me was uncomfortable. Throughout the last 6 months I have been searching for answers and thinking long and hard about what would make me ‘happy’. As I imagine most people do, I expect to live a long life, but why spend so many years doing something that doesn’t make me happy. I decided I’m going to do everything I can to make my life move in the direction I want it to.

Jasmine finishes up by writing ‘My life, I realize, needs to separate my stress from worry. Drivers and strivers can worry, but when they stress, they become trapped to defining their lives as series of successes. In essence, they become trapped in a golden cage’. This is exactly how I have been feeling and striving for success and achievement has left me stressed and anxious. I refuse to be trapped by the stress I often feel in regard to my life.

I won’t be caged.

420 King William - BDO's new home!

New office are amazing - it's like having a moving into a new home, except you don't have to worry about the packing! The accounting firm I work for moved offices last week, from the old, leaking warehouse on Flinders St to brand spanking new digs in a 'green' building!

Im loving my new little cubicle and as they say, a change is as good as a holiday. And this is a good change.

Oh and I hate to make you jealous but our new coffee machine arrives next week...
